What is death by PowerPoint, and how do you avoid it?
Most people present using PowerPoint, and prepare in a way that puts people to sleep.
There are a few things that people need to consider to begin preparation. I call it a Start Up Sheet.
- Who is my primary audience?
- What does my audience need to know about the topic?
- What's in it for my audience?
- Does my talk need a special angle or point of view?
- What's my audience's attitude toward the topic?
- My purpose is to __________ so my audience will ___________.
What's the next step after you've identified these key points?
Next you need to create a storyboard. Below is a sample from my Business Writing Workshop. You start with what you want to TELL. (See Part 2 Video above at 1:09.)
Then you figure out how you want to SHOW. (See Part 2 Video above at 2:38.)
This will help keep your audience awake.
